What makes me mad? Have you ever thought about that question? Or, does it only cross your mind after you’ve said or done something really stupid? Another question to ask is, "Why does X, Y or Z upset me so?" See, understanding your triggers is one of the first steps in learning better anger management. If you are tired of saying things out of anger and letting your mouth write a check that your butt can’t cash, it is time to get better acquainted with your anger to put an end to its rule in your life.

Anger makes people say and do crazy things, some of which land them in serious trouble. We’ve all witnessed times when people have been so angry that they’ve verbally insulted someone bigger and badder than they are, which has led to a physical altercation that they clearly didn’t want. When pondering the, "What makes me mad" question you’re likely to recall similar situations where your anger wouldn’t allow you to keep your mouth shut or to even speak rationally to the object of your anger.

You can’t change other people, but you can change yourself. Using the examples above, one good anger management technique is to not place anyone else’s opinion of you above your opinion of yourself. In so doing, names that they may call you or things they may say about you lose their power when you have a different opinion about yourself. And, in cases what they are saying about you is true, well, if you don’t like it, then seek to change it by changing yourself!
